Supply Chain Integration
Improve Content Testing for Manufacturing Integration Solutions
TradeMerit and US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) participate in developing "Improve Content Testing for Manufacturing Integration Solutions"
Project Overview
Supply chain partners still face enormous technical challenges trying to exchange manufacturing data using commercial software solutions. Currently available testing tools can verify conformance of the form and structure of the data to the form and structure specified in the underlying standards. But, these tools cannot determine whether the data itself is “correct”. This requires a new kind of testing, which we call content testing.
Content testing examines the manufacturing data itself and the context in which it is being used. We have proposed a constraint-based approach to specify that context and perform the testing. This approach attempts to constrain the values of the data using the underlying standard, the business process in which that standard is being used, the supply chain scenario that gave rise to that business process, and the state of the real world in which that scenario is being executed.
We will demonstrate this approach using a supply chain logistics scenario and data exchanges based on the MOSS project, described in Objective 2.
